Math 252 (Phillips) Week 1

Monday 4 January:

Tuesday 5 January:

Wednesday 6 January:

Pdf file from the lecture.
(For the link to the video, see the class email message.)

8:00 pm:
Submit the
WeBWorK
assignment
"Orientation".
It is about learning to use
the WeBWorK system.
(It isn't the same as the ones which go with Math 251.)
Three comments:

Not counted in the course grade.

Problem 8: WeBWorK's interpretation of sin 2x as sin (2) * x
and e^2x as (e^2)*x is sensible
but differs from what you see in a lot of books (including,
unfortunately, ours).
WeBWorK's interpretation of sin x^3 as [sin (x)]^3 is less sensible,
so beware.
To be safe:
always
use parentheses: sin (...), never sin ... .

Problem 10: WeBWorK makes an artificial distinction between
notation for points and vectors; watch out.

Thursday 7 January:

Read the
page on notation errors.

5:00 pm:
"Due" date for the
WeBWorK
assignment
"DifferentiationReview1_v1".
This assignment does not count as part of the grade, although
I will see scores on it.
It is intended as review of differentiation for those who are rusty.
The "due" date is when answers become available.

Friday 8 January:
