Do the reviewers look at the budget, and is it taken into account as a revi=
ew criterion? How does one ensure that a budget will be viewed as realisti=

In theory, the reviewers are not supposed to take the budget into considera=
tion - that is for the council, which meets several months after the study =
section. The study section reviewers' job is to evaluate, and assign, a pr=
iority score, to the science and feasibility (at the broadest level).
However, the budget is there if the reviewers want to take a look at it - I=
do - and may be factored into their scores, albeit unnamed as such. After=
all, it is one measure of the PI's experience and judgment.=20

led a "lost bag" claim with them, but no trace of it yet. Little hope now. =
I have heard there is some new law called HITECH that applies to lost data.=

argumentative. Several of my staff have confided they are worried he is de=
veloping a mental disorder--and thus we could be heading for some episode o=
f "workplace violence". As PI and his supervisor, may I legally interview =
him about these personality changes? Should I? If I refer the matter to o=
ur institute's Human Resources department, could the technician accuse me o=
f "defamation of character"? Do I have any duty to do something or anythin=
