Title:
Topological Quantum Field Theory and its applications
Abstract:
Formulating a useful axiomatic definition of Quantum Field Theory remains
an outstanding problem. In the special case of Topological Quantum Field
Theories, there has been substantial progress in this direction over the
last 25 years, based on the ideas of higher category theory. I will
explain why higher categories arise in physics and will sketch several
interesting examples of Topological Quantum Field Theories which find
applications in mathematics and physics.
