My research during the past five years has been dominated by the commitment
I made to write a large section of the new Brachiopod Treatise for the
Geological Society of America. This has involved building up files on 420
genera and reviewing their morphology and classification. This was completed
and submitted during 1996.
Terrane affinities and provenance of faunas from southeastern and west-central Alaska, and their comparison with faunas in northeastern Russia. Devonian-age rock of the Mystic Terrane near the Shellabarger Pass of Denali National Park, Alaska.
A new collaborative project between the University of Oregon and the
Geological Institute of the Komi Republic in northeastern Russia is currently
being funded by the National Science Foundation. This research aims to
compare conodont faunas and biostratigraphy in Alaska and Arctic Russia.
The Upper Devonian rocks of this Russian region contain rich oil reserves.
Our research is partly directed to improve understanding of these Upper
Devonian structures and the calcareous depsosits that contain much of the
oil.
