General comments: - 1/16" Valco metal compression fittings are designed so that the tubing extends beyond the ferrule the exact amount needed to fill the void in the fitting so as to minimize dead volume. - Metal compression fittings can not be used with fused silica as the silica will shatter. The solution is to use the "FS" (fused silica) style ferrule where the ferrule has a straight extension beyond the cone. The extension fills the void as mentioned above, again to minimize dead volume. - Quoting the web site: "The one piece FS adapter, essentially a reducing ferrule, is recommended for use in fittings where the ferrule will not be removed. Connections are made and disconnected by loosening the fitting nut and sliding the tube out." To me, this says these ferrules can be reused. DO NOT reuse ferrules where the ferrule removal tool has been used; the tool may have created particles. - >>> From the gasbench manual: "For normal operation, the flow should range between 0.5 and 0.8 ml/min" and for flushing, "between 100 and 150 ml/min." <<<<< ____________________________________ Bulkhead union ferrules: - FS1.5 (Valco) for the downstream helium + sample side.
