The American Scholar

A quarterly magazine for general circulation, The American Scholar is available to new ΦBK members at a reduced subscription rate. It has been published by ΦBK since 1932. When the Scholar received a National Magazine Award for General Excellence in the under-100,000-circulation category, the judges cited it as a “magazine of the mind, free of pretense and impeccably edited.” The Scholar has also won two National Magazine Awards for Feature Writing and one for Essays, the only quarterly to have won in all three categories.

The Scholar has published work by many of the world’s great writers, thinkers, critics, and poets, such as Jacques Barzun, Saul Bellow, Albert Einstein, Ralph Ellison, Robert Frost, Buckminster Fuller, Günter Grass, Thomas Mann, Margaret Mead, and E. O. Wilson. Recent contributors include Marilyn Robinson, Nicholson Baker, J. M. Coetzee, Mary Gordon, Cynthia Ozick, John Updike, Ann Beattie and Garry Wills.

The Key Reporter

The Key Reporter is the Society’s quarterly publication for members. It is mailed free of charge to every ΦBK member for whom the Society has a current address. Published continuously since 1935, The Key Reporter keeps members informed about the activities of the Society. It also includes articles of general interest to ΦBK members and brief reviews of recently published books in the liberal arts and sciences. A different chapter-sheltering college or university is featured on the cover of each issue.
