Math 301: Linear Algebra with Applications

Welcome to the course home page for Math 301, Linear Algebra with Applications, with Prof. Patricia Hersh. Class meets TuTh, 9:30-10:45am in Swain East 245.

Textbook: "Linear Algebra and its Applications", by David Lay.

Office hours: Mondays 2:15-3:30pm in Rawles 325; Thursdays 11-11:45am.

Special end-of-semester office hours: Thurs Apr. 28th, 10:45-11am; Fri. Apr. 29th, 2-3pm; Mon. May 2nd, 2:15-3:30pm; Tues. May 3rd, 4-5pm; Wed. May 4th, 11am-noon. Homework has all been graded -- feel free to stop by to pick this up, in addition to coming with questions.

Exam dates: 1st Hourly Exam: Tuesday, Feb. 15th, in lecture; 2nd Hourly Exam: Tuesday, April 5th, in lecture; Final Exam: Thursday, May 5th, 8-10am, in our usual classroom. Warning: There are no make-up hourly or final exams, so please make sure now that you will not have a conflict with any of these exam dates/times!

Using Matlab: Occasional homework problems will ask you to use a software package called Matlab that is very convenient for solving large linear algebra problems, i.e. the kinds of problems that are most likely to come up in other classes and in real-world applications. Matlab is available on computers all over campus, for example the ones in the computer labs in the basement of Lindley Hall. Interspersed within my lectures, I'll mention all the Matlab commands you'll need in this course.
