Department of Managment
The department sponsors an undergraduate management concentration
featuring a career track in human resources management, an MBA
concentration in general management, and a highly selective Ph.D.
program in management featuring tracks in both strategic management
and organization studies.
The core values of the Department of Management center on a
commitment to excellence in both teaching and research in the belief
that one endeavor cannot prosper without the other. As part of the
Lundquist College of Business, the department encourages a collegial
and enterprising work environment, characterized by mutual respect
for colleagues and students, openness to new ideas, tolerance for
divergent points of view, and a genuine spirit of inquiry.
The faculty of the department brings considerable expertise to
the study of management. The research competencies of departmental
members includes global business strategy, strategic HRM, negotiation
and conflict resolution strategies, business practices in East and
Southeast Asia, cross-cultural influences on motivation, labor
relations in Eastern Europe, job attitudes and work motivation,
health and wellness issues in the workplace, managing service
organizations, open book management practices, and leadership. .
Members have received grants in support of their research from
the National Science Foundation, U. S. Department of Education,
Office of Naval Research, and the Freeman Foundation.
Members of the department have also been active in service to the
profession. This service includes two past presidents of the Academy
of Management, a former editor of Academy of Management
Journal, and an Senior Associate Editor of Organization
Sciences. Faculty have also served on the editorial boards of
many of the leading research journals in the field, including
Administrative Science Quarterly, Academy of Management
Journal, Academy of Management Review, Organization
Sciences, Journal of Applied Psychology, Journal of
International Management, Journal of World Business,
Journal of Management Inquiry, and the Journal of
Leadership Studies.
Members of the management department have also been recognized
for excellence in classroom instruction on multiple occasions.
Moreover, the dedication of department members to learning extends
beyond the classroom to include one-on-one mentoring of students and
assistance to students in pursuit of their learning objectives and
career goals.
