Rick Mowday, who received his Ph.D from the University of California, Irvine, is the Gerald B. Bashaw Professor of Management at the University of Oregon. He has also taught at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, the University of Washington, and the The Amos Tuck School at Dartmouth College.
Rick has co-authored three books and numerous journal articles and invited chapters. He sits on the Editorial Review Boards of three journals, Admistrative Science Quarterly, the Journal of Management Inquiry, and the Journal of Leadership Studies. He has previously served on the Editorial Boards of the Journal of Vocational Behavior, the Journal of Management, and the Academy of Management Journal.
His primary professional involvement has been in the Academy of Management, the largest professional association of management professors world-wide. As a member of that organization, he has served as Chairperson of the Organizational Behavior Division, Editor of the Academy of Management Journal, President, member of the Board of Governors, and as the Academy's representative to the International Federation of Scholarly Associations of Management. He has been elected a Fellow of the Academy of Management, the American Psychological Association, and American Psychological Society.
He has taught at the University of Oregon since 1977, primarily in the areas of organizational behavior, human resource management, and leadership. While at Oregon, he has served as the Management Department Head on several occasions, Academic Director of the Oregon Executive MBA Program, and as Associate Dean for the Lundquist College of Business. He is currently an External Examiner for the National University of Signapore.

Rick was born in California and grew up in Palo Alto. Rick is married and has two sons. Graham is an undergraduate at the University of California, Berkeley, and Garrett is a student at South Eugene High School. His wife Mary teaches elementary school in the 4-J district. When he's not working, he enjoys traveling, bicycling, camping, canoeing, and cross-country skiing. His recent travels have taken him to Hong Kong, Shanghai, Singapore, Madrid, Barcelona, London, and Paris. He and his family also enjoy following Duck sports, including football, women's basketball, and track.
He has been active in the community with Habitat for Humanity, having served on the board of the Eugene-Springfield Chapter and helped organize the construction of a house in Eugene. He has also volunteered at Food for Lane County, a homeless shelter, and the Soup Kitchen.
He can be found late most evenings aimlessly wandering his neighborhood with his faithful dog Sophie, waiting for her to do whatever it is she's out there to do and hoping the neighbors don't see her do it.
