Radio core/halo galaxies

A good example is M87 in the Virgo Cluster of galaxies, 50 Mly from us. (Its neighbor, M86, is also an example. In the picture, M87 is in the middle, M86 and M84 are near the edge at ``two oclock,'' with M86 to the left and M84 to the right.)

A black hole?

Could the energy source be a black hole?

Here is how one artist imagines that a black hole might look from a planet that orbits a star in the outer reaches of the accretion disk. Note the dust that obscures and reddens the hot gas right next to the black hole at the center. Also note the jets of material shooting out of the poles.
