Aristarchus of Alexandria
310 to 230 BC
None of his works survived to present.
Earth rotates on its axis once per day and revolves around the sun once per year.
The whole system is inside the sphere of fixed stars.
This was rejected by other astronomers:
- Earth not in its natural place.
- Lacked quantitative predictions.
- Stellar parallax not observed. (That is, angles between stars
should change as earth moves in its orbit.)
