Pages web hosting and Shell outage on Monday, 7/1/1326-Jun-2013 @ 10:55
Between 5am and 7am on Monday, 7/1/13, the Shell server ( and Pages web hosting ( will be out of service for an upgrade.

This is the upgrade we began announcing via e-mail in March.
Tuesday update on email getting returned to sender25-Jun-2013 @ 13:57

Email sent to some off-campus email addresses may be returned to the sender. The most common error messages you will see are:

  • 554 Your access to this mail system has been rejected due to the sending MTA's poor reputation.
  • Delivery has failed to these recipients...

This situation will last until we can get our name cleared from the block lists.

Unfortunately, the are no remedies for this bouncing mail. Several UO email accounts were used to send spam, which resulted in the university's email servers getting blocked.

If you need to contact someone and your messages bounce, call them on the phone or use a personal email address, when possible.

Alumni Center power (and network) outage20-Jun-2013 @ 15:23
On Friday, 6/21/2013, between 5am and 7am, power will be shut off to work on a transformer at the Alumni Center. The power outage will result in the complete loss of network connectivity during that time.

The primary data center experienced a network outage early this morning. Staff are working on the issue. More details to come.
