Using Avaya Telephone Features
Consult

DIGITAL PHONES ONLY

This feature is used to ring back a principal user by a covering user who has answered a coverage call.

  1. Principal user (i.e. line dialed by caller) hears priority ringing. If the principal user has all his/her calls screened, this is a way to get the call back to them.
  2. Can only be activated from a digital telephone where "CONSULT" is a defined button, and where the answered call was a coverage call.
  3. Used typically by coverage points that do not have Priority Abbreviated Dial (PAD) buttons to reach a principal.
  4. Principal user will hear three beeps if in the Conversation State and his/her telephone is a single line phone. Caller hears a special audible ring.
  5. You can transfer the call back to the principal user using 3-way conference.
  6. The problem of insufficient PAD buttons may be better solved using an Abbreviated Dialing List programmed to dial extensions with Priority Dialing (Please see Priority Dialing for further information).

To Notify a Principal User of an Important Call

  • Press TRANSFER button
  • Press CONSULT button
  • Hear ringing/party answers
  • Consult

To Consult with the Principal User and Transfer the Call

  • Press TRANSFER button
  • Press CONSULT button
  • Hear ringing/party answers
  • Consult/Party accepts transfer
  • Press CONFERENCE button

On Single line phones: FLASH, RECALL, TAP, & R all indicate the same button. Any single line set without this button will have to use the Switchhook button instead.
