These are topics that will NOT be accepted as suitable for the final project. They are topics that have proven difficult for students to complete successfully in the past.

Reasons include an overwhelming amount of material, too much to sort through; too little quality material readily available; topics unlikely to interest editors and lead to publication, or topics that have simply been overdone.

Besides those listed below, the instructor reserves the right to turn down topics that lack a significant public policy focus or are too specialized to provide reasonable access to sufficient sources to analyze in the time available.

• smoking and health;
• cigarette advertising;
• intercollegiate athletics;
• legalization of marijuana or the use of hemp;
• music labeling and lyric censorship;
• eating disorders;
• television and violence;
• images of women in advertising.
