Criteria for Evaluation

  • Introduction/Table of Contents(10 pts.)

    10 points = proper order & style

    5+ = problems in presentation & content

    1. Are all the elements present and presentable in form: original and final question, brief discussion of revision and research, listing of numbers of sources?

    2. Quality of final question, insightfulness of discussion. Explanation of fewer than minimum sources in any category?

  • Mix of citations (20 pts.)

    less than 35= maximum of 10 points

    35 = 15 points

    35+ = 15-20 depending on quality

    1. Minimum numbers (or more) in appropriate categories

    2. Creativeness, numbers, relevance of "other" sources?

    3. Follow proper format and style?

  • Annotations (65 pts.)

    grammar, writing style, etc. = 15

    discussions of specific source = 35

    comparison to other citations = 15

    1. Full citations, general descriptions of sources.

    2. Critical analysis of how each source contributes to resolving research question, formulating argument.

    3. Comparison of each source to other annotation, including references.

    4. Overall quality, appropriateness of sources.

  • Outline(15 pts.)

    Incomplete or lacks organization = 5-10 pts.

    Completeness of outline -- full listing of sources. Follow assigned format?

  • Essay (30 pts.)

    Quality of discussion = 20 pts.

    Excellent = 15+

    good = 10+

    poor = 5+

    grammar, etc. = 10 pts.

    1. Follows logic, argument of outline, showing how sources will be used.

    2. Composition, writing form, length, grammar, etc.

  • Overall Quality (30 pts)

    Excellent = 25+ pts.

    Good = 20 pts.

    below average = 15 pts.

    poor = 10 pts.

    Was research question clearly posed and answered a professional fashion that showed understanding, appropriate level of work, and accomplishment?
