At the core of the elliptical galaxy M87 lurks a supermassive black hole. The mass of the core of M87 is consistent with 3.5 billion times the mass of the Sun with an event horizon of radius around 10.5 billion kilometers or about 70 Astronomical Units (around a thousandth of a light year, the rough size of our Solar System). The entire galaxy has mass 2.4 trillion solar masses and rsdius 120,000 light years.
