Dear Cliff,

 I understand that you are the convener of the Johnson Memorial Award
Committee.  As secretary of the faculty I serve as an ex-officio member of that
committee each year.  I've been informed by the President's Office that no
nominations were received this year during the nomination period that ended in
early March.  This is not particularly unusual given the nature of the award,
and there seldom more than one or two  nominations in any one year;
occasionally there are none, as was the case this year.   

Absent any instructions from you to the contrary, I will send a report to the
President that indicates that no nominations were received this year for
committee review and thus there is no recommendation for a Johnson Memorial
Award recipient this year.
