The English Department's Ricoh Aficio MP 6001
The English Department maintains a Ricoh Aficio MP 6001 printer in the
mailroom on the first floor of PLC.
This printer is intended for light
printing, scanning, and copier use by English faculty.
For
high-volume jobs, please use the Campus Digital Print Center. They
are located in the EMU,
room 19.
They will accept electronic files via e-mail sent to pmcdp@uoregon.edu; be sure to include printing
instructions and an index number for billing.
If you want to know all the ins and outs of the Ricoh printer,
the manual is at
http://www.manualowl.com/m/Ricoh/Aficio-MP-6000/Manual/183623.
For the technically curious, all of the printer drivers for the Ricoh
Aficio MP 6001 printer live here:
http://www.ricoh-usa.com/downloads/popup/popup_manuals_drivers_download.aspx?path=http%3a%2f%2fsupport.ricoh.com%2fbb%2fhtml%2fdr_ut_e%2frc2%2fmodel%2fmp6001%2fmp6001en.htm.
For the folks who just want to install the proper driver, the general
instructions for installing and using the English
Department's printer are
- Get a
printing code from the English Main office.
- Identify your computer's operating
system
- Download the corresponding printer driver from
Ricoh
- Install the printer driver
- Configure the printer for
printing
Preparation
Please make sure to be connected to UO Secure or wired into the campus
network before continuing. The now deprecated uowireless wireless may
prevent a successful installation and there have been instances that
printing over uowireless does not work.
Also you will need to get a special code
before you will be able to use the printer.
Operating System Identification
Apple computers:
- Click Apple logo at top left of
screen
- Select About this Mac.
- A new (small) window will
appear. The version number is listed in the middle of the
window.
Windows computers:
- Click on Start
- Right-click My
Computer
- Click on
Properties.
- A System Properties window will appear. This will
tell you the base version of Windows you have.
- (Vista and
Windows 7) If "64-bit Operating System" is listed next to System type,
you're running the 64-bit version of Windows Vista or Windows 7. If
"32-bit Operating System" is listed next to System type, you're running
the 32-bit version of Windows Vista or Windows 7.
Driver Installation
Apple OS X 10.8 (Mountian Lion) through OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
- Download the appropriate driver for your operating system.
- Open the .dmg file if it didn't do it automatically.
- Double-click on the file PPD_Installer_RI1454E3L.pkg and click
through
the installation screens. No need to change any of the recommended
settings of the installer. You can safely eject the mounted .dmg after the
PPD installation is finished.
- Go into System Preferences --> Print & Fax. Unlock the gold padlock
if
necessary, then click on the "+" sign to add a new printer.
- Click on IP. Make sure Line Printer Daemon LPD is chosen in the
"Protocol" choice. Put in this address:
128.223.108.40
then rename the
"Name" field if you like (optional). Location field can be left blank. The
"Print Using" drop-down registers RICOH Aficio MP 6001 PS. Click the Add
button.
- The options are: Large Capacity Tray (Installed); Finisher (Finisher
SR4030); All others are (Not Installed). Click Continue. It's now
installed, but wait, there's more!
- Printing: Start a print job from whatever program you use (Firefox,
Word,
etc). Expand down all your printer options if not already done and click
the drop-down to find and choose Job Log.
- Make sure the text box for User ID is blank (or, alternatively,
you could put in your UO ID (i.e. burridge) or your campus extension; this
would give someone a way to reach you should there be a problem with a
print job).
- Towards the bottom, check Enable User Code
- In the text box for User Code put in your copier ID number that
was given to you by Susan.
You may now make other print preference settings and then
print.
TIPS:
- You can save your user code as one of your Presets. After you check
the box for Job Log and enter in your code, you can also choose Layout
from the drop-down and pick Two-Sided: Long-edge binding (or just check
the Two-Sided checkbox). Then from the Presets drop-down choose Save
As...
and give it a name like Duplex w code or Double-sided w code. If you
already have presets, then make the additional change to the Job Log
feature with your code and Save over your existing preset name.
- If you don't want to use Presets, your accounting code seems to stay
in the print setting of the program until you log out or restart the
computer.
Apple OS X 10.4 (Tiger)

Windows 7 & Vista (64bit & 32bit)
- Download then Open the Windows 7 PCL6 from this URL:
(64bit)
http://support.ricoh.com/bb/pub_e/dr_ut_e/0001184/0001184432/V1300/r50700en.exe
(32bit)
http://support.ricoh.com/bb/pub_e/dr_ut_e/0001184/0001184494/V1300/r50706en.exe
- Click Next on the Welcome screen, accept the agreement and then go
Next. On the "Select Folder" screen, click Browse and choose a location
that you can find easily later, like your Desktop or the C: drive. Once
you select a place, click the OK and it then populates the path where it
is going to put the driver files. Click Next, then OK when it says
"Extraction Complete".
- Click on Start and get to the Control Panel. Go into the "View
devices
and printers" section under Hardware and Sound. In the next window, choose
the section to "Add a Printer". Choose "Add a local printer" then select
"Create a new port. In the drop-down next to that selection, choose
Standard TCP/IP Port and click Next. In the Hostname or IP address field,
put in 128.223.108.40 and click Next.
- On the next screen that lists all the printer models, click on the
"Have Disk..." button, then Browse... button. Locate the folder you
extracted in step 2. Open the Ricoh-Win764_PCL6 (or Ricoh-Win7_PCL6) and
disk1 folders to reveal the OEMSETUP file. Select it and then hit Open -->
OK. From this list, choose "RICOH Aficio MP 6001 PCL 6" then click Next.
In the Printer name screen, we recommend English-Mailroom. It now starts to
install the printer. Decide if you
want it to be the default printer or not and skip the test page print.
Click Finish.
- Once the printer is installed, you can right-click it and choose
Printing Preferences to lock in the accounting code. You can find where it
belongs under the Valid Access tab in the User Code field. If you don't
put it here, you have to find this same tab before printing in the
preferences choices from the program you print from. NOTE: This copier
-does not- prompt you for your code like the last copiers. You have to put
it in the preferences --> Valid Access tab.
Windows XP (32bit)
- Download then Open the Windows XP PCL6 from this URL:
http://support.ricoh.com/bb/pub_e/dr_ut_e/0001184/0001184494/V1300/r50706en.exe
- Click Next on the Welcome screen, accept the agreement and then go
Next. On the "Select Folder" screen, click Browse and choose a location
that you can find easily later, like your Desktop or the C: drive. Once
you select a place, click the OK and it then populates the path where it
is going to put the driver files. Click Next, then OK when it says
"Extraction Complete".
- Click on Start and get to the Control Panel. Go into the printer
section to "Add a Printer".
- Make sure "Local printer attached to this computer" is selected, but
-uncheck- the option to "Automatically detect and install my Plug and
Play printer".
- On the next screen choose to "Create a new port" and pick the
drop-down
selection "Standard TCP/IP Port". Get through the next screen and then in
"Printer Name or IP Address" put in
128.223.108.40 Click Next, then
Finish.
- On the next screen that lists all the printer models, click on the
"Have Disk..." button, then Browse... button. Locate the folder you
extracted in step 2. Open the RicohXPdriverPCL6 and disk1 folders to
reveal the OEMSETUP file. Select it and then hit Open --> OK. From this
list, choose "RICOH Aficio MP 6001 PCL 6" then click Next. In the Printer
name screen, we recommend
English-Mailroom.
Choose "No" for the test page question and decide if
you want it to be the default printer or not.
- Once the printer is installed, you can right-click it and choose
Printing Preferences... to lock in the accounting code. You can find where
it belongs under the Valid Access tab in the User Code field. If you don't
put it here, you have to find this same tab before printing in the
preferences choices from the program you print from. NOTE: This copier
-does not- prompt you for your code like the last copiers. You have to put
it in the preferences --> Valid Access tab.
NOTES: Your accounting code apparently does not stay in the
printer
preferences after a computer restart IF you put it only in the Valid
Access tab when printing from a program. If you enter your code in the
Control Panel --> Printers & Faxes section, it appears to stay even after
restarting your computer.
