Installation Instructions

The main web page for the Xerox 5955i is here: http://www.support.xerox.com/support/workcentre-5945-5955/downloads/enus.html

A manual (PDF) may be found here: http://download.support.xerox.com/pub/docs/WC5945_WC5955/userdocs/any-os/en_GB/UG-en-GB.pdf

Macintosh Instructions for OS 10.14 and recent MacOS versions

  1. Download the Installer Package from here: https://www.support.xerox.com/support/workcentre-5945-5955/file-download/enus.html?operatingSystem=macOS10_14&fileLanguage=en&contentId=143602&from=downloads&viewArchived=false

(Older MacOs can use this older installer http://www.support.xerox.com/support/workcentre-5945-5955/file-download/enus.html?operatingSystem=macosx109&fileLanguage=en&contentId=131985&from=downloads&viewArchived=false)
  2. A DMG file will download and display its contents.
  3. Double-click the Xerox Print Driver Package.
  4. A dialog will come up asking to run evaluation software, click CONTINUE
  5. Click CONTINUE a few more times, and then agree to the EULA (after reading it thouroghly, of course).
  6. A new dialog will come up informing you that the driver install will take up 173.8 MB of space; click INSTALL.
  7. A new dialog will come up asking you for the Macintosh's administrative password to continue the install. Provide it and click INSTALL SOFTWARE.
  8. The dialog will validate packages, write files, and do other things that will take about 2 minutes....

Eventually, a window will come up showing discovered printers. Very likely the printer you want wont be listed. CLICK on the icon on the right-hand side (I think it's supposed to be a single computer on a network, but it looks like a cart on some kind of dangerously electrified monorail-rollercoster).
  9. The list of unwanted printers will be replaced with the caption "IP Address or DNS Name:" and a blank. Depending upon the printer wanted, type in 10.128.108.14 (Mailroom), 10.128.108.15 (PLC 232), or 10.128.108.16 (PLC 228).
  10. Once the IP address is entered, the installer should display the printer/scanner information. Click CONTINUE.
  11. A new dialog box will appear with both "Set Printer as Default" and "Print Test Page" checked. Unchek appropriately and clice CONTINUE.
  12. Installation should be successful. Click CLOSE

To add additional printers...

Once you've installed the printer drivers for the 5955i onto a Macintosh, additional printers may be added via the System Preferences.

  1. Double-click SYSTEM PREFERENCES to open them.
  2. Double-click PRINTERS AND SCANNERS to open the printer dialog box.
  3. On the bottom left hand side of the printer list, click the plus sign.
  4. Click on the IP icon; the dialog box should change.
  5. Under "Address," enter the appropriate IP for the printer (e.g. 10.128.108.16)
  6. Under "Protocol" use Internet Printing Protocol - IPP
  7. Under "Name" replace the IP address with something easier to remember (i.e. "English Mailroom", "PLC 228", or "PLC 232"). If another printer has already been installed, under "Use" Xerox WorkCetner 5955, 3.68.0 should already be selected.
  8. Click OK; the Macintosh should think to itself for a moment than install the driver.

Since we want the printer to pester the user for a user ID...

The next step is to download the appropriate PCL 6 driver

  12. Click NEXT.
  13. The setup software will wonder if you want to share the printer. Choose DO NOT SHARE THIS PRINTER and click NEXT.
  14. A message should appear saying that the printer has been successfully installed. Check the options to set as default printer or print a test page at your discretion and click FINISH
  15. Once you've successfully installed the first Xerox WorkCentre 5955, if you need more than one printer installed, you can add subsequent printers through the Windows Control Panel.
