Procedure to follow for volunteering in Community organizations

WHAT TO DO: 
1. Go to the INFORMATIONAL MEETING which is held during the beginning and near the end of the quarter. (See Enrolling for specific dates and times).
2. Register for the class at the meeting.
3. From the list below, choose one of the jobs that you are interested in . 
4. Call the contact number listed below. Present yourself as a PLE student and set up a time to meet with the organizational leader.
5. Meet with the volunteer organizational leader in charge.  Fill out the U of O PLE agreement form and you and that person will sign it. Make sure to record your hours of work and have your employer sign the time sheet.

1. U.S. Office of the Environmental Law Alliance Worldwide (E-LAW U.S.)-a global network of public interest lawyers and scientists who collaborate across borders to defend the environment.

Job Description:  1) Online translation of electronic conference discussions.  Volunteers are assigned a day to translate the messages, but can do it either in the ELAW office or at home at their convenience if they own a computer.

2) Document translation, mostly legal or scientific documents, again at their convenience.

French Spoken: None, all written translation.

Time: Varies

Requirements: Good level of written French and reliability.

  2. Circle Francais Coordinator (U of O, Yamada Lab, Eugene, Oregon 97403)
Job Description: Work with a variety of native and near-native French speaking GTFs to coordinate the weekly Circle Francais conversation group. 

Time: Wednesday, 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Tracktown Pizza

Requirements: Good speaking skills

Procedure to follow for volunteering in French Classroom


WHAT TO DO: 
1. Go to the INFORMATIONAL MEETING which is held during the 1st and 10th week of class. 
2. Register for the class at the meeting.
3.Go directly to  200 North Monroe St. Eugene where you will give Julia Girod <girod_j@4j.lane.edu the Criminal Background Check packet of information. She will process your criminal background form. This takes about 1 1/2 to 2 weeks. (Please indicate whether you want to be in Elementary, Middle School or High School)
4. Contact the teacher below and present yourself as a bilingual volunteer with the PLE program at the University of Oregon.  Set up a time to meet with him/her.
5. Fill out the U of O PLE agreement form and have the teacher and you sign it. Make sure to record your hours of work and have your employer sign the time sheet.
