payroll: Reinstatement of Benefits

A message from HR Benefits Office

We have recently received clarification from the Public Employees Benefit Board (PEBB) regarding the eligibility for reinstatement of benefits when an employee returns from a leave. The following guidelines will be used to determine the date of reinstatement.

- An employee who returns from a leave without pay or reduction in hours is required to work or receive pay for at least "half time" in the month they return to be eligible for benefits the following month.

- An employee who returns immediately following Family Medical Leave (FMLA/OFLA) or Worker'ss Compensation is not required to work or receive pay for at least "half time" in the month they return to be eligible for benefits the following month.

"Half time" is defined as:

- Classified Employees (covered by the collective bargaining agreement)-- receive pay for at least 80 hours in the month they return

- Unclassified Employees -- must receive pay for half the working days in the month they return
