Active Galaxies

The Hubble classification includes most galaxies, especially for those that are nearby us. But there are others that show unusual energy production that seems to arise from their central cores.

These galaxies differ in the shape of the galaxy outside the core, in the rate of energy output, and in the place in the galaxy from which the energy production is finally radiated into space. However, there are certain similarities among the types.
