The calculated daily gain for each window bay could then be used to calculate the total daily solar heat gains for the entire building during summer. This was simply a matter of counting the number of bays for each orientation, multiplying this amount by their respective heat gains, and then adding the results together.
North = 3
South = 8
East = 2
West = 5
(see graph)
Compared with the unshaded condition, the shading devices as a whole reduce solar heat gains by 18%.
