BSSC Open House: October 24th, 2013

The Bowerman Sports Science Clinic will be hosting an open house 4 to 7 pm on October 24th. This will be a rare opportunity to see live demonstrations of the services we offer as well as interact with the staff and students that run the clinic. The two motion analysis systems integrated with overground forceplates and instrumented treadmills will be on display in the biomechanics laboratory. The exercise physiology laboratory will be demonstrating the metabolics system. Come visit us to learn how we can help you perform at a safe and more effective level!

Eugene Marathon Health & Fitness Expo

The BSSC will be participating in the Health & Fitness Expo on April 26th, from 1 to 6 pm and April 27th, from 10 am to 6 pm at Lane Events Center. We will be working in collaboration with Cooperative Performance and Rehabilitation to provide live demonstrations of our biomechanical running analysis. Certified physical therapists and members from our biomechanics lab will be on site to answer questions about the assessment. Live demos will begin on the hours of 1 pm, 3 pm, and 5 pm on Friday and 10 am, 12 pm, 2 pm, and 4 pm on Saturday. Please come visit us to learn how we can help you keep running injury free!

Laboratory Construction - 1/8/2013

The initial pieces of equipment have arrived for our biomechanics laboratory: AMTI forceplates. The four in-ground forceplates measure the ground reaction forces and moments that are generated by a body standing on or moving over them. Soon to follow are our motion analysis camera systems which will measure the motion of your limbs and joints. The forceplates will be integrated with these cameras to provide us with detailed analyses of human gait and sport performance. We are extremely excited about the initial installment of our fancy equipment. It's like Christmas day here!

OTC Testing - 12/1/2012

We have been working closely with some of the new members of the Oregon Track Club Elite, testing physiological variables such as lactate threshold and VO2max. With the data obtained from these tests, the coaches are able to finely tune and monitor the athletes' training and progress at the onset and throughout the duration of their training. We are excited to be a part of the path these gifted athletes follow as they pursue their goals.

Forceplate Pit Demolition - 11/15/2012

The first step in getting our laboratory space ready to be transformed into a fully functioning lab was to expose the pre-existing forceplate pit, which was installed years ago in preparation for an eventual gait lab. Since then, the pit has been filled with 2x4s and plywood. Tearing apart the temporary frame and flooring turned out to be lots of fun for Michelle and the undergrads, especially the removal of the 1/2" thick nails embedded into the cement floor which created a sea of sparks!
