AERE Annual Luncheon, Saturday, January 5, 2008, New Orleans

This year's intrepid volunteer Luncheon photographers were Ikuho Kochi and Haitao Yin.

Dr. Ikuho Kochi completed her dissertation, entitled “Essays on the Value of a Statistical Life,” at Georgia State University in 2007. Kochi, Hubbell, and Kramer (2006) "An Empirical Bayesian Approach to Combining and Comparing Estimates of the Value of a Statistical Life for Environmental Policy Analysis" appeared recently in Environmental and Resource Economics. She is presently involved in post-doctoral research at Colorado State University (and the US Forest Service Rocky Mountain Research Station), working with John Loomis, Patty Champ, and Tom Brown to study the health and economic impacts of wildfire and prescribed fires in the U.S. (Note: Laura Taylor encouraged Ikuho to volunteer for this service to AERE.)

Dr. Haitao Yin is an Erb Fellow at the University of Michigan. He received his PhD degree in Applied Economics and Managerial Science from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. His research interests center around how regulatory policies, voluntary programs, markets and social norms can be utilized to create systems of incentives to promote harmony between nature and society. His current research projects include the roles of governments and insurance markets in financing the cleanup of USTs, the impacts of ISO 14001 Certification on firms’ environmental management and performance, and voluntary cleanup programs for Brownfields. (Note: Gloria Helfand encouraged Haitao to volunteer for this service to AERE.)
