Much outdoor recreation takes place on public lands, and environmental quality for the ecosystems on these lands can affect the value of the recreational experience. Nonmarket values of recreational opportunities can be inferred from travel cost models or destination site choice models, relying on either revealed behavior or stated behavior under counterfactual conditions.
