PEER REVIEW INSTRUCTIONS
Introduction
The peer reviews you will write for each other represent a very important part of this course. The peer review, together with the other process requirements -- the rhetorical plan, the draft, and the revision plan -- distinguish the BA199 from the BA101 writing assignments. In essence, BA199 students receive one credit toward graduation for completing these process requirements. In all other respects, the 199 writing assignments are exactly the same as the 101 writing assignments. Therefore, evaluators of your final portfolio of writing produced this term will look closely at these process documents to determine if you have earned credit for BA199.
Save a copy of the peer review you write for another student and a copy of the peer review another student writes for you, to include in your writing portfolio.
Go to PEER REVIEW for a more detailed explanation of the requirement in this course to review the writing of a peer.
Instructions
Peer reviews only work when writers complete a best effort draft of the document in time for a reviewer to read and respond to it, and when reader/reviewers take seriously their responsibility to improve the document. To fulfill your responsibility as a reader, you must accurately describe in what ways the document works or does not work for you as a reader and offer specific recommendations to help the writer improve the document. You are as qualified as any reader to review the writing of your peer, perhaps more qualified since you are currently completing the same assignment and, therefore, have important perceptions to share.
To complete the review process:
1) Exchange papers with another member of your project group at least three or four days before the final draft is due. You may also exchange with more than one person, as long as you exchange with the project partner in BA101/199 as well.
2) Print out the PEER REVIEW WORKSHEET and write complete answers to each question after carefully reading the document written by your peer. Reread the document to help you answer questions when necessary.
3) Make one photocopy of the completed form, front and back if you have continued your responses on the back of the form.
4) Return one copy of the completed form to the writer at least two days before the final draft of the assignment is due.
5) Save both forms, the form you completed for another writer, and the form you received back from a reader. You will include both of these forms in the portfolio you submit by Monday or Tuesday, November 23 or 24.
