ASSIGNMENT #3: BA199 PERFORMANCE EVALUATION

DUE: In your Portfolio in class, Monday, March 1 for M/W classes; Tuesday, March 2, for U/H classes.

DESCRIPTION: Evaluate your own performance and the performance of your group members on the BA199 writing assignments. Use the form provided below to complete your evaluation.

PROCEDURES: Print out the form provided below and write in the requested information and numbers. Then, type the requested comments on a separate page and staple the page behind the sheet providing numerical data. Do not send this evaluation to the class email address. Instead, simply include it as a printed copy in your portfolio.

NOTE: Remember, this performance evaluation covers BA199 only. You must also complete the performance evaluation for BA101 and include both in your portfolio. Read the portfolio assignment page for information about organizing the contents of your portfolio.

PERFORMANCE EVALUATIONS IN GENERAL:

Performance evaluations play a critical role in managing the overall productivity of employees in an organization. Because promotions and compensation are often tied to performance evaluations, they are also of great importance to the individual being evaluated. In many organizations, the process by which performance is evaluated includes a self-evaluation, a supervisor's evaluation, and a face-to-face meeting.

 Self-evaluations include:

 Supervisor's evaluations include:

Face-To-Face Meetings:

Supervisor's typically meet with employees to discuss performance evaluations. During this meeting differences in perception are resolved, a formal (legal) evaluation of performance is recorded, and goals for the next evaluation period are established. Disagreement and negotiation are not uncommon. Subjective comments made either by the supervisor or the employee become more "objective" through a process of establishing agreement, or inter-subjectivity, on any issues lacking hard, objective evidence.

THIS PERFORMANCE EVALUATION IN PARTICULAR

We will not meet face-to-face to discuss your performance in this class. However, please be candid on this evaluation. The honest numerical data and comments you provide will help us understand how the course functioned for you, so that we can make structural changes in the future.

NOTE ON GRADING: You will receive full credit for this performance evaluation if you provide complete and candid responses. Negative assessments of your performance or the performance of your group members will not detrimentally affect any course grade. The point of this exercise is to help you understand how performance evaluations work, not to determine grades for the course.
