The Ethiopian Center for Disability and Development (ECDD) welcomes students from the University of Oregon to work as interns for 3-6 months. Depending on an intern's background and interests, responsibilities could include assessing and advising on building accessibility in Addis Ababa, doing research about children with disabilities in Ethiopia, working as an information specialist for the organization, or doing disability training. IE3 interns are not compensated at ECDD, but UO financial aid can be applied toward internship costs. Additional scholarships are available through IE3 and the UO Study Abroad office. Students who receive a federal Pell grant may apply for the Gilman scholarship, which makes awards up to $5,000. The estimated cost for a three-month internship, including air fare, program fee, living expenses, and other costs, is approximately $9,000. Chris Bennett, the IE3 Regional Director for Africa, has visited the site and works directly with staff there. ECDD is a partner agency of Mobility International USA.
