Solar Panels:

From the south end of the building, notice the solar panels on the front windows. More panels are located on the roof of the building (and are visible from the top floor of PLC). An average of 58,000 KWh'swill be saved annually from these panels. Also, EWEB purchases the power generated from these panels at eight times the value so that the Unversity will profit from the investment.

Light Shelves:

These light shelves, located on the south facing side of the Lillis Business Complex act much like the awnings installed on the Volcanology building, yet have more capabilities. The shelves work by blocking direct sunlight to the room and reflecting light into the upper window portion to be evenly distributed across the ceiling and throughout the room. This works to increase natural lighting in the room while decreasing heat gain in classrooms by blocking direct sun rays.
