Field trip sponsored by the Emerald Chapter, Native Plant Society of Oregon


Saturday, September 30th, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Annual Fifth Fall Forest Fungal Foray is jointly sponsored by the Cascade Mycological Society and the Native Plant Society of Oregon. Join Peg Boulay and Bruce Newhouse on a mushroom identification trip to the Willamette or Siuslaw national forest. Trip will involve pairing off (buddy system) for several short forays, and hiking over slopes and moderate terrain in rain. Participants must obtain their own Free Use Mushroom Permit (from the Willamette National Forest Supervisor's Office in Eugene, or a ranger station) before the day of the trip, and sign a liability release form at the meeting place. Group size limit of 20, preregistration required: 343.2364.
Mount Pisgah Arboretum Needs Volunteers


Interested in teaching what makes the leaves fall and how animals prepare themselves for the impending winter? The Arboretum's Education Program is looking enthusiastic and concerned volunteers to work as nature guides, leading local elementary school children on Fall Ecology tours. Natural history training and educational materials are provided. For information, call Fran Rosenthal at the Arboretum Education Office at 747-1504.
