Logo Contest for Eugene Natural History Society

We are interested in developing a new logo for the Eugene Natural History Society. We are almost out of arm patches (how long has it been since yours wore out?) and feel that something other than a sea shell would be more appropriate. How about an outline of the skyline above Eugene, with Spencer Butte sheltering our society's acronym? A pinwheel of Lane County biodiversity?

We have all kinds of prizes, none worth more than the pride you will feel if your design is selected. Send in your designs to the Society at our P.O. Box: Box 3082, Eugene, OR 97403
Nature Quotes

'To find the universal elements enough; to find the air and the water exhilarating; to be refreshed by a morning walk or an evening saunter. . .to be thrilled by the stars at night; to be elated over a bird's nest or a wildflower in spring - - these are some of the rewards of the simple life.
. . . John Burroughs (1837-1921).

To me a lush carpet of pine needles or spongy grass is more welcome than the most luxurious Persian run.
. . . Helen Keller (1880-1968)

'It were happy if we studied nature more in natural things, and acted according to nature, whose rules are few, plain, and most reasonable.'
. . . William Penn (1644-1718), Quaker founder of Pennsylvania

The day, water, sun, moon, night __ I do not have to purchase these things with money.
. . . Plautus (254?-184 B.C.)

You can't be suspicious of a tree, or accuse a bird or a squirrel of subversion or challenge the idealogy of a violet.
. . . Hal Borland (1908-1978)

Everything that slows us down and forces patience, everything that sets us back into the slow circles of nature, is a help. Gardening is an instrument of grace.
. . . May Sarton b. 1912

Hurt not the earth, neither the sea, nor the trees.
. . . The Book of Revelation
