Organizing graphic information provides a way to use it in different ways. By grouping and layering components, we can examine the information in different ways. By defining symbols and nested symbols as substitutable parts, we can quickly try alternatives that look radically different but are built on the same underlying relationships. Separating aesthetic content and organizational structure allows maximum flexibility in many aspects of digital design.
