WorkType

The WorkType layout is used to create strings of terms about what a work actually is. There should be little or no overlap between WorkType and GeneralSubject or Subject. Most terms can be found in the AAT hierarchies, however if you need a WorkType that does not appear in AAT, look to the established hierarchies in this layout or AAT and build on them if you can. Please consult the staff if you are having trouble. The WorkType string is combined with the Classification list in the Work record for export. Classification adds very broad keywords to the top level of the WorkType hierarchy.

Dupe button: Duplicates the last active record

AAT button: Opens the Getty Art and Architecture Thesaurus Online

Go button: opens the specific record for the source, if the Ref ID is filled out

Object Type (1-7)	Use lower case; use subsequent fields for narrower terms in hierarchal order	Use AAT hierarchies and include only unbracketed, lowercase terms (except for proper names.) Additions to this list from other sources require Staff approval.
Term Source	Pull-down menu	Authority source
Narrow Term	Use for the narrowest term	Copy the narrowest term in the hierarchy. The Work record pull down list shows only the broadest term (ObjectType1) and the NarrowTerm, although once chosen the entire string will appear in the record.
Ref ID	As source	The identification given to the authority record by the term source.
Note	Free text	Include any notes for usage
Export Object Types String	Auto-entered	Full string of terms from broad to narrow that will appear in the work record separated by semi-colons.
