About This Print

Asai's print of a woman peddler from Ohara carrying a load of firewood, appearing in volume one Kyōto no maki of the three volume set of "sketch tour" books titled Kinai kenbutsu (Scenes of the Inner Provinces), published by Kanao Tanejirō (1879-1947) (the publishing house Bunendō) in 1911 and 1912. It is a re-working of the artist's 1908 print, shown below, which appeared in the design book Mokugo zuan shū published by Unsōdō.
