About This Print

In this scene from chapter 30, Chinese Agrimony, Yūgiri, the son of Prince Genji and Aoi-no-Uye, holds a branch of Chinese Agrimony (thoroughwart flower) and tells Tamakatsura of his love for her.

Source:  Genji gojūshijō 源氏五十四帖, published by Shin Kōbe Shinbunsha, 1974.
Yūgiri, who was the the son of Prince Genji and Aoi-no-Uye, the daughter of Ohmiya, was also in mourning. Yūgiri had thought Tamakatsura to be his sister; now that she proved to be the illegitimate daughter of the Lord Keeper, he found himself irresistibly attracted by her. So he visited her to confess his love.
