About This Print
One of several western-style school buildings built in the Naniwa area of Osaka in the early/mid-1870s. In this print we see an appreciative crowd looking around the school. Perhaps it's opening day at the school and parents are bringing their children for the first day of classes. For all of his landscape prints Hasegawa used this large horizontal tanzaku format.
