About This Print
This print is one two small format prints created by Kan for the short-lived 1915 magazine Shin Nigao whose purpose was to advertise the Kabuki theater and renew interest in actor prints. While the vast majority of prints created for Shin Nigao were portraits of actors, several portrayed famous geisha of the time, as in this print which pictures a geisha named Nanako from the Yoshichō geisha quarters of Tokyo. This print appeared in issue 5, published in November 1915.For more information on this short-lived magazine whose purpose was to advertise the Kabuki theater and renew interest in actor prints, see the article Shin Nigao Magazine.
