About This Print
Snow at Hi Marsh, Mito is the first Japanese woodblock print I acquired. I purchased it at Frank Castle's San Francisco gallery, Castle Fine Arts. I remember spending a wonderful hour looking at the prints in the gallery and speaking with Frank and his wife about Hasui prints and the various editions. This print is one of the posthumous Heisei editions (1989 to present). [See "Watanabe Publishing Seals" under Watanabe Shozaburo (Publisher) (1885-1962).] Frank told me of a customer who was buying Heisei editions to display in place of more expensive "original editions."What drew me to this image was a memory of recurring snow-themed dreams that left me feeling calm and fulfilled.
