About This Print

Takahashi has given us at least five views of Mt. Fuji in this print and, possibly, 25 if we take the print's title literally.  Wonderful embossing throughout and a barely visible reflection of Fuji in the upper right of the bottom margin (see detail views below.)

Color woodblock print with embossing on paper
Lent by Irwin Lavenberg, L2017.103.14

Takahashi presents us with multiple views of Mount Fuji in this print. As Hagiwara did in his Thirty-Six Fujis, on view nearby, Takahashi pays his respect to earlier ukiyo-e artist depictions of the mountain, by including in this print his version of Hokusai’s Fine Wind, Clear Weather, commonly referred to as “Red Fuji.”

Fine Wind, Clear Weather,
from the series Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji, by Katsushika Hokusai, ca. 1831
