About This Print

One of twenty posthumous large-format prints created between 1978-19801 by the Kyoto publisher Kyoto Hanga-In, after earlier Yumeji illustrations.   These large-format prints are part of the series titled Takehisa Yumeji moku-hanga shu 竹下夢二木版画集 (A Collection of Takehisa Yumeji's Pictures in Woodblock Print).

This print is reproduction of a late Taisho-era work by Yumeji pictured below. Miyuki is the blind heroin of Shōutsushi Asagaobanashi (生写朝顔話), commonly known as Asagao Nikki (朝顔日記). Miyuki has gone blind from weeping over her separation from her lover.

1 Daiwa Shinagawa, President of Kyoto Hanga-In, confirmed the publication date for this print as between 1978-1980 in response to my inquiry made on May 1, 2012. She also confirmed that the series consisted of 20 prints.
