About This Print

This print is a c. 1950s re-issue, possibly using re-worked blocks or one or more new blocks, of the original 1939-1940 print that appeared as part of the series Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji with the title Hōnen no Fuji 豊年の富士 (see IHL Cat. #761)This re-issued print was released as part of the series The Eight Views of Mount Fuji with the revised title Minori no Aki 實りの秋.  This print was re-packaged again under the title The Harvest (Fall), as part of the undated series Four Season of Mount Fuji.  Various printings of this image by the publisher Uchida are shown below.

The Series - Eight  Views of Mt. Fuji

Published by Uchida Bijutsu Shoten in the 1950s, this eight print set by Tokuriki Tomikichirō (1902-2000) is a re-issue of eight prints from the 1939-1940 thirty-six print series Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji.  It is unknown if the re-issued  prints in this series were reprinted from the original blocks, re-worked blocks, new blocks, or some combination of the three.  On this print, Fall Harvest, the obvious difference between it and the original 1939-1940 release is the absence of the small telephone pole on the far right of the hill, as can be seen in the below images.  Other differences common to all the re-issued prints involve the repositioning of the print title (moved from the right margin into the image area next to the artist's signature), changes to the writing of the artist's signature within the image; the use of a different publisher's seal (the Uchida han octagon); and the elimination of the series title, print title, publisher's copyright, and the artist's name from the right margin.
