About This Print

This print is a c. 1950s re-issue, possibly using re-worked blocks or one-or-more new blocks, of the original 1939-1940 print that appeared as part of the series Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji.  This re-issued print was released as part of the series The Eight Views of Mount Fuji and re-packaged again under the title Cherry Blossoms and Mount Fuji (Spring), as part of the undated series Four Seasons of Mount Fuji.  Various printings of this image, by the publisher Uchida, are shown below.

The Series - Eight  Views of Mount Fuji

Published by Uchida Bijutsu Shoten in the 1950s, this eight print set by Tokuriki Tomikichirō (1902-2000) is a re-issue of eight prints from the 1939-1940 series Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji.  It is unknown if the re-issued  in this series were reprinted from the original blocks, re-worked blocks, new blocks, or some combination of the three.  The obvious differences from the 1939-40 prints are the repositioning of the print title (moved from the right margin into the image area next to the artist's signature), changes to the writing of the artist's signature within the image; the use of a different publisher's seal (the Uchida han octagon); and the elimination of the series title, print title, publisher's copyright, and the artist's name from the right margin.
