About This Postcard
One of twelve woodblock-printed postcards designed by Tokuriki that make up the three part series Famous Places of Osaka, issued in the 1930s by Unsōdō Publishing.
This postcard features a sidewheel steamer on the Okawa River passing by the Japan Mint built in 1871 in the western-style. The Japan Mint was established in Osaka by the Meiji government to modernize the coinage system. As built, it included factories to make the necessary equipment for the mint. A power plant was added in 1911 and it was this building that was renovated into the Mint Museum in 1969.
This print is part of the second set of four prints consisting of:
