The Play - Kuzu

Source: A Guide to No, P.G. O'Neill, Hinoki Shoten, 1929, p. 96-97.

The Emperor Temmu goes to Yoshino to escape from disturbances that have broken out, and there an old couple serve him and his officials with fish and hide him in a boat from two enemy soldiers who have followed the party.  The old fisherman and his wife promise to distract the Emperor's thoughts with some entertainment and then vanish.  Soon afterwards, they return in the form of a goddess who dances for the visitor, and as Zao Gongen, who promises his assistance in restoring peace to the country.
