The right panel of a diptych (see below) depicting the actor Ichimura Kakitsu 市村 家橘 IV (the stage name of actor Onoe Kikugorō V from Spring 1863 to July 1868)1 playing Gosho no Gorōzō (Gallant Gorōzō) and two other roles in the play Gosho no Gorōzō (also known as Soga Moyō Tateshi no Goshozone.)
The story of an otokodate, a Robin Hood type of character said to have been common after the end of the samurai era, focuses on the conflict between two former samurai, Gorozo and his enemy Hoshikage Doemon.2
Characters in the play are Gosho no Gorōzō, Hoshikage Doemon, Satsuki , Ōshū, Kabutoya Yogorō Gosho no Gorōzō.3

The Play Gosho no Gorōzō
Gosho no Gorōzō was one act of a six act play written by Kawatake Mokuami 河竹黙阿弥 (1816-1893), loosely based on the novel by Ryūtei Tanehiko called "Soga moyō tateshi no Goshozome," or "The Gallant's kimono dyed with the Soga pattern."The story of an otokodate, a Robin Hood type of character said to have been common after the end of the samurai era, focuses on the conflict between two former samurai, Gorozo and his enemy Hoshikage Doemon.2
