About This Print

Depicting the six actors (from right to left) Ichimura Kakitsu IV 市村家橘, Ichikawa Shinsha 市川新車, Nakamura Tsuruzō 中村鶴蔵,  Bandō Hikosaburō V 坂東彦三郎, Onoe Kikujirō II 尾上菊次郎 and Sawamura Tosshō II 沢村訥升 playing characters in a Soga Brothers themed New Year's play of revenge titled Tsuru no chitose Soga no kadomatsu

The two antagonists of this play are the characters Fuwa Bansaku and Nagoya Kosanza.  Nagoya and Fuwa appear in a number of kabuki plays with revenge as their theme.

The Tsubouchi Memorial Theatre Museum lists the actors and roles (from right to left) as follows:
Ichikawa Shinsha playing the role of 山三妻八重垣 (? wife Yaegaki)
Ichimura Kakitsu playing the role of 不破伴作 Fuwa Bansaku
Nakamura Tsuruzō playing the role of 猟人鹿笛の七蔵 (unread)
Bandō Hikosaburō V playing the role of 酒うり又六 (unread)
Onoe Kikujirō II playing the role of 竹斎 娘おみわ (Chikusai musume o miwa?)
Sawamura Tosshō II playing the role of 名古屋小山三 Nagoya Kosanza
