About This Print
Nobukazu pictures the troops celebrating after a victory at Asan1, Korea with sake served from barrels labeled 日本一 nipponichi ("Japan's best" or "number one in Japan.") The small red cartouche in the center panel reads 寄贈品 kizōhin ("gift"), possibly a gift from the emperor. The small red cartouche in the lower right hand corner sits above captured Chinese weapons and reads 分捕物 ("loot" or "plunder"). The artist did a similar design (see below) for a different publisher in the same year, 1894.
