About This Print

A dozen revelers carry a movable shrine, an omikoshi, tipping it from side to sideduring a festival.

While almost all of Yoshitoshi Mori's prints are stencil prints, this print appears to be at least partially created using woodblock given the baren marks on the back, as shown below.

Omikoshi
Omikoshi お神輿 is a portable Shinto shrine for the gods and spirits carried by the parishioners of a shrine during festivals.  It is paraded around local areas and signifies the warding off of misfortune and wishing for the happiness of its people. Rocking the omikoshi invigorates the deity and enlivens the land.
