Bullards Beach State Park offers miles of prime Pacific Ocean beach, a river, a lighthouse, camping, and equestrian trails. It occupies the north shore of the Coquille River, across from Bandon, Oregon (map). The park comprises a mile-long sand spit where the river jogs south to its mouth, and pine-clad dune land running north along the beach. From the entrance near milepost 259 on US 101, paved Bullards Beach Road runs three miles, first southwest along the river, west to the first beach access parking, and then south along the spit to another beach access parking area at the end, where the Coquille River Lighthouse stands at the base of the North Jetty.
The seaward side of the sand spit is all sandy beach, which runs north the length of the park and beyond, past Bandon Dunes Golf Resort to Whiskey Run beach some miles away. If the tide allows, risk-takers might slip between the cliffs and the waves at Fivemile Point and walk the beach past Seven Devils SRS to its end where the mountainous bulk that culminates in Cape Arago shoulders its way into the Pacific.
